Funky brain-wave art.

Summary of Article: For the longest time, the study of consciousness has basically been left to philosophers and mystics, but that has recently been changing. Scientist among fields of biology, neuro science and physics are looking into the possibility that human consciousness may alter reality. An evolutionary biologist named Dr. Williams B. believes that our 37 trillion cells may individually contain  a spark of conscience.

He argues that they are not just mechanisms carrying out genetic instructions like machines. Instead, he believes that "they respond, adapt, and even appear to 'decide,'" hinting that a cellular-level consciousness could be plausible. This idea has been gaining more traction, especially due too the rise of xenobots, which are lab grown organisms that have the ability to organize themselves in a way that seem garder an internal intelligence. Meanwhile another group of scientist are studying consciousness through the lens of quantum mechanics. They Propose that microtubules, the tiny structures inside of our brain cells, may operate on a quantum level.

In a recent study, rats under anesthesia stayed conscious longer when their microtubules were chemically stabilized. This means that their may be more going on than what was originally believed. Additionally to this research, there has also been psychedelic studies preformed on volunteers under the influence of compounds such as DMT and LSD. These individuals claim to have experienced a connection to a higher reality, as if their consciousness is expanding outward of their physical body. Some describe the sensation "as touching the fabric of the universe, experiencing timelessness, or even encountering intelligent entities."

These studies are challenging the age old idea that consciousness is just a by-product of brain chemistry. Scientists are hinting that, in the right conditions, "consciousness might reveal or even help shape a deeper level of our existence."

More funky brain art.

My Thoughts: I think that the human brain has complex, un-studiable layers, and consciousness is currently one of them. I do believe that humans can change their environment with the power of suggestion and intentions, and some further indulgence into this concept would be super interesting. Human consciousness is incredibly difficult subject to study, especially when it comes to the scientific evidence end of the spectrum. We don't even have full evidence that human consciousness is a real independent thing, as it may just be a by-product of brain chemistry.

This is something that I've been kind of stuck on for a long time. I really struggle with what I believe spiritually, and sometimes I feel as though everything we do and feel stem from biological mechanisms and functions that exist strictly due to evolutionary purposes. For the longest time, that's all I believed consciousness was. I believed that it was just there because of survival purposes, something that makes the monkey go for the banana. Now I'm not so sure.

I feel like my opinion on how the universe works and human consciousness along with it is undergoing change. I think that further studying of this subject would be massively beneficial for our understanding of man kinds functions. I think that if we learn more about human consciousness, that it will lead to us discovering deeper things about ourselves as a species. I also don't think that this applies to just homo sapiens, I think it'll be the same idea for every living organism, plants included.

Of course, without more extensive research this will not be certain, and may not hold any truth at all. We may be completely misinterpreting what the scientists are observing, as we still have much to learn.
