Summary of Article: The Strawberry Moon is about to rise in June of 2025! It is going to be the "final full moon of spring in the Northern Hemisphere." This particular moon rise will be the lowest in our sky and the farthest full moon from the sun for this year. Its going to be the highest in the sky at approximately 3:45am, Eastern Daylight Time, on Wednesday June 11.
You'd think the best time to view it would be when its at its highest in the sky, but it's not! The best time to view this spectacle is going to be on June 10th at around 8:45pm, as when it rises it will be the biggest and most bright. It will be the most pink/orange at that time compared to the rest of the night. June's full moon is typically the lowest hanging moon rise of the year, and this is because the moon is opposite of the sun, so it "mirrors our stars position in the sky."
Due to summers solstice occurring on June20th, (when the sun is the highest in the sky) the closest full moon to that date (June 20th) is the lowest of the year. Junes full moon this year will be approximately 94,600 miles (or 152,200kilometers) away from our Sun. It is named the Strawberry Moon for the wild strawberries that, in some areas of the Northern Hemisphere, ripen during this month.
My Thoughts: I really enjoy anything that has to do with astronomy, and this event is definitely no exception! I generally try to get out to witness moon events like the Pink Moon, the Blood Moon, the Sturgeon Moon, and the Wolf moon to name a few, but the Strawberry Moon is definitely one of my most favourite Lunar events.
Last year, I unfortunately missed it, so there's no chance I'm letting that happen this year, not a chance. I didn't know that the moon was called a Strawberry Moon due to the fact that some strawberries ripen during the time that it happens, so that was a fun little fact to learn! I also didn't realise that when the moon is the lowest in the sky the sun is the highest. I guess that is kind of an obvious fact, but I just never put two and two together.
I can't wait to get some gorgeous pictures of this spectical, as my phone is really great for taking pictures of the moon. I'm probably going to head to a beach to veiw it, so it will be a nice moment to enjoy by myself with some much needed alone time. I feel like it would be a good time for some silent, personal self reflection about what I want in my life and future.
